Day 3. BUENOS AIRES - City Tour

Today’s “Evita” tour begins at the Plaza de Mayo. The many aspects of the life of Eva Duarte de Peron, the legendary 'Evita', are reflected in some of the surrounding buildings, especially in the Casa Rosada. From the balcony above, she and her husband President Juan Peron, made many important speeches to the Argentinean people. View the former venue of the Eva Perón Foundation (now the Faculty of Engineering), and the building of the CGT (General Confederation of Workers), where her remains were preserved. Continue to Luna Park, where Evita met the then-General Peron on a romantic evening. Then, on to the Four Seasons Hotel (ex-Park Hyatt) where Madonna stayed during her filming of the movie. Time to analyze and discuss the many controversial aspects of Evita’s personal and political story. Next, on to the Evita Museum in Palermo, with displays of her life and work, inaugurated for the 50th anniversary of her death; stand in front of the beautiful monument erected in her honor. Then, on to the Church of Our Lady of Pilar, where she married General Peron. Drive to the world-famous Recoleta Cemetery with its astonishing displays; many famous personalities are buried there including Eva Perón. Hear more about her flamboyant life as you stand in front of the Evita crypt, always laden with fresh flowers. Eva Perón is a symbol of the worldwide struggle of women against patriarchal oppression, loved by the working class, who she generously aided during her brief but intense political career. This afternoon time for fun and shopping. You’ll be accompanied to the area of your preference -- the well-known designers of Recoleta or the more local boutiques of modern designers in Palermo, or, perhaps the antique shops in San Telmo, or art galleries.
